If im going to be paying for insurance on their devices then I dont want them, aka Ricky, playing on it and handling it roughly. If they do break it and they are at fault, they should be responsible for paying back the deductible ($45). That's the only way to hold them accountable and to teach responsibility. But, it won't matter what i say.
